Hugh M. Moore (1882–1949) was elected as Arlington’s Mayor on April 7, 1925. At the time, Arlington had fewer than 4,000 people—that’s about 1% of our current population!
Born in Alabama, Moore moved to Texas as a young child and grew up in Garland. He moved to Arlington around 1910, where he later established Moore Funeral Home and Moore Memorial Gardens.
In addition to his term as mayor, Moore served as Justice of the Peace and was a charter member and president of the Arlington Rotary Club. He was also a dedicated member of both the Shriners and the Woodmen of the World. Moore passed away in 1949 at the age of 66, leaving a lasting legacy.
