Arlington is “The American Dream City.”
Though some find the branding silly or derisive, it has merit. It’s a slogan rooted in diversity and dreams, in aspirations and assets, and in opportunities and options. Many have come to Arlington from faraway lands to begin a life they could only dream of back home. Whether pursuing higher education, starting a small business, or simply living a “normal life,” many have found exactly what they sought right here.
And while few people study a city’s logo and slogan before moving or visiting, how a city brands itself can have a more significant impact than you might think.
The Arlington CVB launched the “Fun Central” campaign in 2002 to market the city as a destination for family fun, entertainment, and tourism. Perhaps a bit cheesy in retrospect, it was effective and memorable. In 2009, coinciding with the Dallas Cowboys’ arrival, the CVB introduced a new slogan—”arlington, texas: and the crowd goes wild” (stylized in all lowercase)—to capitalize on sporting events. Maybe more of a foul ball than a home run, this one fell flat, and the all-lowercase aesthetic felt a tad obnoxious.
“The American Dream City” dates back to 2014, when the city hired a consultant to create something more apropos. This moniker feels mature and significant, fitting for a growing city gaining both grace and wisdom. Having lasted longer than the others and becoming part of the local culture, expect it to stick around.

Evolution of Arlington Logos and Slogans (2002–present)
Interestingly, Arlington’s tourism numbers have doubled over the last 25 years, climbing from 7 million visitors in 2002 to over 16 million in 2024. A large part of that growth stems from AT&T Stadium and its major events. Like it or not, the stadium is the biggest thing in Arlington in more ways than one.
While Arlington remains “Fun Central” at its core—especially with the expanding list of attractions in the Entertainment District—it is now firmly “The American Dream City.” The city has stayed true to its roots while evolving into a place where visitors and residents alike can find what they seek. That is no easy feat. Ultimately, it’s a testament to Arlington’s appeal, vision, and adaptability as it continues to carve out its own distinct identity between Dallas and Fort Worth.
