Two years ago today—April 8, 2024—many experienced a truly once-in-a-lifetime event: the rare total solar eclipse.
At approximately 1:40 P.M., the sky over Arlington surreally plunged into eerie darkness for over three minutes. It felt like a scene from a sci-fi movie. As people gasped and cheered in wonder, we were all unified by that brief, breathtaking moment. What an incredible experience it was.
While Arlington wasn’t the only witness, DFW sat directly in the path of totality, which stretched from Mexico to Canada across 15 states.
Arlington held various watch parties to mark the occasion. UTA hosted its “Solar-Bration,” while AISD combined fun with unique lessons for students. Levitt Pavilion hosted “Total Eclipse of the Park” with a DJ and food trucks. Six Flags offered exclusive viewing from the Oil Derrick alongside a drone and fireworks show, and Division Brewing even released a themed beer for the event.
