‘Life in a log cabin’ – an early exhibit at Fielder Museum

This newspaper clipping from July 9, 1980, mentions an early exhibit at the Fielder Museum, which had opened less than three months prior. The article notes that the display included photos and artifacts used in log cabin life, coinciding with live spinning wheel demonstrations.

While many of our earliest exhibits relied heavily on photographs, these physical artifacts marked the very beginning of the museum’s growing collection.

It’s fascinating to see how our museum has evolved over the years while staying true to its roots. Today, Fielder Museum’s sister site, Knapp Heritage Park (dedicated in 2004), offers an even larger, immersive exhibit dedicated to preserving and depicting local log cabin life.
