Here’s something you don’t see every day: Arlington’s Telephone Directory from 1904.
Now, this isn’t simply a page from the directory—this is the entire thing. There were fewer than 80 phone numbers listed, with business and residential mixed together.
Telephones were a luxury at the time, and of course, only useful if the person or business you wanted to call had one. Most people have as many or more phone numbers than this in your cell phone.
