Nearly 100 years ago, this article appeared in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. I love the stipulation that “chickens must not do their calisthenics in the flower beds of the nearest neighbor.” That sounds fair and just—unless you’re a fowl.
I’m not sure how many residents keep hens today, but it’s a vivid reminder of Arlington’s rural roots. Even by the late 1920s, farmland still dominated the landscape, and the city’s population was less than 4,000 residents.
