Night Moves in Arlington: Revisiting Bob Seger at Texas Hall in 1977

UTA’s Texas Hall, a 2,600-capacity theater that opened in 1965, has seen its share of legendary performers over the years. Many classic rock icons have played there—some while they were up-and-comers, others while they were superstars in the making. Artists such as Aerosmith, Kansas, REO Speedwagon, Van Morrison, and Judas Priest have graced the stage, just to name a few. For many, Texas Hall was a stepping stone to larger venues in Fort Worth or Dallas, where they would perform on subsequent tours.

If I had a time machine, I’d take it back to April 10, 1977, when Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band played to a sold-out crowd at Texas Hall as a stop on their Night Moves tour. Tearing through hits such as “Rock and Roll Never Forgets,” “Travelin’ Man,” “Beautiful Loser,” “Turn the Page,” “Mainstreet,” “Katmandu,” and closing with the nostalgic “Night Moves,” it was surely an unforgettable evening. A review in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram praised the performance, noting that Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band had become one of the top rock n’ roll acts to see live, trailing only Wings. What a time to see them live at a smaller venue like Texas Hall.
