Tommy Von Hatten: Golden Glove Boxer Turned Pro

Local boxing legend Tommy Von Hatten passed away on April 9, 2014.

A 1968 graduate of Arlington’s Sam Houston High School, Von Hatten began his boxing career in the Golden Gloves amateur program. After winning two state championships and several regional titles, he turned professional. He boxed as a welterweight from 1971 to 1975, finishing his career with an impressive 19–9 record.

Remembered as much for his friendly personality and willingness to help others as for his powerful punch, Von Hatten maintained a significant following across North Texas throughout his career.

Following his passing, a celebration of life was held at Meadowbrook Park, drawing a large crowd of friends and fans who remembered him fondly.
