These articles and newspaper clippings from April-May 1985 detail Pantera’s rise in popularity, including an upcoming concert at the Six Flags Music Mill Amphitheater.
Before they became heavy metal gods, Pantera was a relatively unknown band playing local restaurants, clubs, bars, and anywhere else they could. While much of the band’s popularity came from word-of-mouth in the early days, their albums were starting to get distribution in major outlets outside of Texas, and heavy metal magazines were beginning to take note.
In May 1985, Pantera played ‘Friday Night at the Flags,’ a concert series at the Music Mill Amphitheater inside Six Flags Over Texas. It was one of their largest shows to date, marking a significant step up from the previous summer’s show at the Southern Palace—a smaller, indoor Six Flags venue that had proved too small for their rapidly growing fanbase.
Pantera released their third album “I Am the Night” in October 1985.
