Obituary for George E. Luttrell (1875-1955)

George Elston Luttrell (1875-1955) was an area pioneer and long-time grocer in Arlington.

Luttrell was born in Georgia and came to Arlington in 1897, where he lived for nearly 60 years. He was in the grocery business for 55 years; Luttrell’s Grocery was located at 115 S. Center Street for the majority of its operations. Luttrell served on the Arlington City Council in the 1920s. He also served as a developer and the namesake of Luttrell Street in Arlington.

Mr. Luttrell passed away on October 13, 1955, after a brief illness. He was survived by his wife, Mittie, of nearly 50 years, and their four children. Luttrell is buried at Arlington Cemetery.
