Interurban ad for the inaugural horse racing at Arlington Downs racetrack.
In the fall of 1929, anticipation was building for the inaugural horse races at Arlington Downs racetrack, a newly constructed venue boasting the finest amenities—and a price tag to match.
Arlington Downs was destined to be a place to see and be seen, and arriving in a handsome, “de luxe” motorcoach, such as the one pictured, certainly had appeal.
The Interurban, an electric railway system, connected major cities and smaller towns, with the Northern Texas Traction Company providing a steadfast line from Dallas to Fort Worth. While automobiles were gaining popularity, many still relied on (or preferred) the Interurban for travel. As the advertisement states, they were fast, convenient, and economical, offering an easy way to get to and from the racetrack.
