Hugh M. Moore (1882-1949) was born in Alabama and grew up in Garland, Texas. He later became a long-time resident of Arlington. He operated the eponymous Moore Funeral Home, served as justice of the peace, and was Arlington’s mayor from 1925 to 1926. An active civic leader, Moore was a previous president of the Arlington Rotary Club, a Shriner, and a charter member of the Woodmen of the World. Hugh and his wife, Mary, had eight children.

Moore died on November 23, 1949, from an asthma attack and a subsequent heart attack. Services were held at Arlington Presbyterian Church, with burial in Parkdale Cemetery.
