Celebrating Arlington’s 150th Anniversary with some awesome artwork

I’m the proud new owner of some beautiful artwork!

Fielder Museum’s resident artist Keisha Smith of KeishaLeighArt recently created this piece to celebrate Arlington’s sesquicentennial this year. While the original is on display at the Fielder Museum, there are only 150 prints available, with proceeds benefiting the Arlington Historical Society.

“Commemorative Arlington” by Keisha Smith

Keisha did an outstanding job on this one. What I like most about it—besides how cool it looks and the chance to support a local artist—is that it incorporates so much of Arlington’s history through subjects that genuinely interest me. Top O’ Hill Terrace and Arlington Downs were the two things that first sparked my passion for local history, and everything else referenced is something I’ve researched or read about in great detail. While Arlington doesn’t have a traditional skyline, these landmarks represent the heart of our city and its rich heritage.

“Commemorative Arlington” by Keisha Smith features over a dozen references to our history, including:

  • National Medal of Honor Museum
  • Six Flags Over Texas
  • Globe Life Field—Home of the Texas Rangers
  • AT&T Stadium—Home of the Dallas Cowboys
  • General Motors Assembly Plant
  • Arlington Music Hall
  • Vandergriff Building
  • Top O’ Hill Terrace
  • Arlington Downs
  • UTA
  • Texas & Pacific Railroad
  • Mineral Well
  • Wagons with cotton bales
