Pink Floyd is one of my favorite bands. And while I never got to see them live in concert, Bricks in the Wall—a tribute band from Dallas—does their music justice. They’ve been at it for over 25 years, playing a handful of shows yearly, mostly in the DFW area.

They often play the Arlington Music Hall in January and continued the tradition this year. I was there for my 13th Bricks in the Wall show (seven in Dallas and six in Arlington) and they never disappoint. Loud, lively, and with lots of lasers, Bricks in the Wall is a faithful recreation of the sight and sound of Pink Floyd.

I’ve seen them play several Pink Floyd albums in their entirety to celebrate milestone anniversaries, but this time around they mostly stuck to the greatest hits from Dark Side of the Moon, The Wall, and Wish You Were Here. It’s tough to pick a favorite because they do all the songs well, but “One of These Days” is always wild and “Have a Cigar” is always a treat. As with many Pink Floyd tribute shows, I’m often one of the youngest in attendance—though an “older” woman sitting in front of me really seemed to dig it. I suppose if you grew up with Pink Floyd’s music, seeing such a faithful tribute takes you right back to your youth.

Arlington Music Hall is one of my favorite places for a concert. A historic venue and a City of Arlington Local Landmark, it opened in 1950 as a movie theater. Today, it’s used for live performances and the occasional film screening. With inexpensive tickets, free parking, a pleasant ambiance, and plenty of bars and restaurants nearby, it’s a charming local spot for a night out. It’s unpretentious and less trendy than other venues, making it a true hidden gem in Downtown Arlington.
