Jason B. Little (1832-1911) was an area pioneer, land owner, and Civil War Veteran. He’s also the namesake of an Arlington school and road that you may recognize.
The Littles, the Hawkins, and other families traveled from Tennessee, arriving in East Texas in the early 1840s. Many from the same caravan later traveled to what would become Tarrant County.
Jason married Rebecca (1841-1919) from the Hawkins family, and the couple had four children. Although all four children survived to adulthood, Rebecca outlived them all, even her husband.

Jason fought in the Civil War, leaving Rebecca to manage their farm and homestead. Upon his return to their cabin, his children, who were quite young when he left, didn’t recognize him at first.
Jason and Rebecca later donated part of their land for a school, which eventually became Little Elementary School in Arlington that we know today. Jason is the namesake for Little Road and also Jason Drive, a smaller residential street in the area. (Fun fact: Jason Drive and Little Road intersect, so the stop sign at the intersection says “Jason Little.”)
As early pioneers in the area, the Littles lived on the same farm for over 50 years. Jason passed away on December 13, 1911, at age 79. He is buried at Hawkins Cemetery in Arlington with his family and other area pioneers.
