An original poem inspired by Rev. J. T. Upchurch (1870-1950) who founded the Berachah Industrial Home for the Redemption of Erring Girls in Arlington, 1903.
Crusader
A preacher, lecturer, and writer
Opposing evil and sin, a fighter
Pushing reform, social cause
Transforming lives without pause
Built a house of redemption
For erring girls, for prevention
Helping unwed, expecting souls
Providing skills for their rolls
Through vicissitudes and trials
The man preached virtuous styles
Part of an evangelical movement
Seeking equality and improvement
Published “The Purity Journal“
Ever so patient and paternal
Wrote “Behind The Scarlet Mask“
His work, thus, an arduous task
“Amen! Thy will be done,” engraved
Lasting reminder to ones he saved
Crusader, a servant of God and man
Living out a divine promise and plan
