Funko Pop!—Pantera

“Under the lights where we stand tall / Nobody touches us at all…” —
Pantera, “Cowboys From Hell”

Ironically, these collectibles are only about 4 inches in height—not exactly ‘standing tall,’ as Pantera’s iconic song boasts. They’re still cool nonetheless.

Funko makes hundreds of the POP! collectibles—that is, pop culture icons in vinyl figurine-form stylized in the Japanese “chibi” aesthetic. Although they typically have oversized heads, small bodies, and large, black eyes, many look remarkably similar to their real-life (or make-believe) counterparts. Given their popularity across fandoms, and Pantera’s recent resurgence, it was inevitable when Funko honored the legendary metal band with their own set.

Funko released a set of Pantera figures in May 2024. The collection included miniature versions of Phil Anselmo, Vinnie Paul, Dimebag Darrell, and Rex Brown. Although originally priced at about $50 for the set, there were limited quantities produced and heavy demand. (‘Heavy’—see what I did there?)

Funko POP!—Pantera

If you missed out and are looking for a set, be prepared to pay the price. The cheap ones on eBay start at $100, while there’s a set currently going for $255, plus shipping. If you have even more money lying around, someone is selling a custom Dimebag Darrell figure for $350 that they made with a 3D printer. I don’t know if Dimebag would be proud or pissed.

I must admit, the set would look damn cool in my home office, but I missed out on the pre-order. And while $50 seemed like a lot for ‘toys’ at the time—in hindsight, I should have snatched them up at the lower price. Well, lesson learned about supply and demand amid the cutthroat world of collectibles!
