Remembering Arlington’s First MLB All-Star Game

The City of Arlington and the Texas Rangers first hosted the MLB All-Star Game on July 11, 1995. The game was held at The Ballpark in Arlington.


Today marks 30 years since the City of Arlington and the Texas Rangers proudly hosted their first MLB All-Star Game.

A crowd of 50,920 packed The Ballpark in Arlington, which had opened just a year prior, eager to see baseball icons from the 1990s like Cal Ripken Jr., Kirby Puckett, Barry Bonds, and Frank Thomas. Hometown favorites, the Rangers’ own Kenny Rogers and Iván “Pudge” Rodríguez, also took the field, much to the delight of the local fans. Adding to the excitement, recently retired legend Nolan Ryan threw out the ceremonial first pitch.

The National League won the game 3-2, after Jeff Conine of the Marlins hit a home run in the 8th inning to break the tie and take the lead.

In addition to the game, the area buzzed with fan festivals and special events, significantly boosting the local economy. Many enjoyed the game at local bars and restaurants.

The 1995 MLB All-Star Game was a landmark occasion, one of the first sporting events to put Arlington in the national spotlight.
