Officer Jillian Smith—End of Watch: December 28, 2010

Arlington Police Officer Jillian Smith was lost in the line of duty on December 28, 2010.

Jillian Michelle Smith (1986-2010)

Arlington native Jillian Michelle Smith (1986–2010) knew from a young age that she wanted to protect and serve her community. After graduating from Seguin High School and the UTA, Jillian joined the Arlington Police Department in February 2010, graduating from the academy later that year.

On December 28, 2010, having recently completed her field training, Officer Smith responded to a domestic violence call. While she was interviewing the victim, the suspect unexpectedly returned to the scene. Tragically, the man shot both women before taking his own life.

The community responded with an outpouring of grief, honoring Jillian with a candlelight vigil and a funeral at Mount Olive Baptist Church. She was remembered by friends, family, and fellow officers for her bright smile, cheery attitude, and unwavering determination to serve her community.

Officer Smith, age 24, was the eighth Arlington Police Officer lost in the line of duty—also the first and only woman. Tragically, she was the second lost in 2010, as Officer Craig Story died in a traffic accident in January. We remember their service to Arlington with gratitude.
