William H. Rose (born 1883) served as Arlington’s Mayor from 1919 until his unexpected death in 1923. Rose’s death was caused by a delirium-induced fall from a hospital window following an operation a few days earlier. His funeral was said to be the largest attended in Arlington at the time, with schools, banks, and businesses closing and much of the town paying their respects.

In this 1942 ad for the City of Arlington, the town’s prime location between Dallas and Fort Worth aims to draw more college students to the area. Mineral water, Meadowbrook Park, and fine schools, churches, and other social organizations are also used to entice families and others to Arlington.
