Arlington Theater opened in 1950. While no longer a movie theater, it’s now an intimate venue for live music and other performances.
In January 1977, Mayor Tom Vandergriff unexpectedly resigned from office. He had served as Arlington’s mayor for 26 years. Mayor Pro Tem S.J. Stovall took office during a transition period for Arlington.
Arlington Police Officer Craig Story, age 34, died in the line of duty on January 13, 2010. He served with the Arlington Police Department for seven years.
The North Side School opened in 1907 at Sanford and Center Streets in Arlington. Students in grades one through seven attended. Tragically, the structure was destroyed by fire in January 1909.
