Arlington High School Building – 1922

Marker text:
Arlington’s first public school, County School P. S. #48, opened in September 1896. The Arlington Public School District — now AISD — was established in July 1902, and built its first school, a combination elementary/high school in 1903. Steady growth prompted AISD to build a new Arlington High School on this site în 1922. At the time of its construction, it was the largest public education facility between Dallas and Fort Worth. In 1956, it became Ousley Junior High School, the city’s first junior high school. It operated as such until 1968, when the University of Texas at Arlington purchased the academic complex for the University’s School of Social Work. (2007)
