International Bowling Museum & Hall of Fame

National Bowling Day is August 9 this year and it’s a perfect time to highlight the International Bowling Museum & Hall of Fame in Arlington.

The International Bowling Museum & Hall of Fame originally opened in 1972 in Wisconsin, moved to St. Louis in 1984, and finally settled in Arlington’s Entertainment District on January 25, 2010.

The 100,000-square-foot site serves as a headquarters, training center, and museum full of artifacts and interactive exhibits, offering a unique look at a sport far older and more fascinating than you might think.

In fact, did you know bowling originated over 5,000 years ago? It is one of the world’s oldest sports; ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics depict early versions of the game, and evidence suggests even prehistoric people rolled objects at targets for sport.

Today, bowling remains a beloved pastime for everyone from casual players to avid enthusiasts. League play, tournaments, and even high school teams continue to grow in popularity.
