Vapid lullabies

Think and philosophize
Drink and romanticize
Familiar hallucinations —
Predictably linger in the air

Slothful tendencies
Unimaginative ideas
Going with the flow
Waiting for someday

Lullabies fade into nightmares
No longer comfortably obscure
Always, never, today, tomorrow
Past, present, and future intersect

A banal canal
Stagnant waters
Anchored ships —
All make a watery grave

Another drab and dreary day
Rain, clouds, skies of gray
Where is the sun to light my way
Who’s there to hear thoughts I say.

A poem by Jason S. Sullivan, 12-02-20
