Unwelcome visitor

You coyly tap on my back door
Vulnerability fogs the midnight air
Ghoulish wolf with an angel’s face
Indecent proposals even for the devil

Wasn’t expecting your arrival
But in darkness you appeared
You politely asked me to dance
How could I possibly say no

My amulet crumbled into dust
You quickly offered a remedy
Familiar venom tastes sweet
Let’s not delay the inevitable

Leave me, unwelcome visitor!
Go forth back into the night!
You have other souls to visit…
Don’t make me chase you away.

A poem by Jason S. Sullivan, 10-18-20
