Dark forest

The dark forest invites
It’s one of those nights
Another trial to face
In this familiar place

A return visit to this land
No vindictive thorn in hand
Merely a score to settle
And a test of my mettle

Searching for buried treasure
To feed my selfish pleasure
I felt your eyes watch over me
As it became too much to see

With every step I dare to take
I’m unaware of what’s at stake
The forest keeps getting thicker
And my light is starting to flicker

Hearing the sounds of the night
Makes all the wrongs feel right
What happens if stars in the skies
Are the only lights left in our eyes?
