The verdict

Balancing patience and persistence
Waiting for a voice from the shadows
Tethered by indefinite indecision
Cursed daydreams of frayed regret

Knowing this is my last chance
Makes it all seem so unreal
Caught between heaven and hell
Trying to fly with clipped wings

Awaiting your solemn verdict
Will it be guillotine or freedom?
You hold my life in your hands
Trusting you not to let me down

Silence fills the midday air
Breath caught in my lungs
Watch the horizon spin away
Into a pale memory of dust.

A poem by Jason S. Sullivan, 08-20-20
