The sun warmed my pale, old skin
I felt alive for the first time again
Today was a new start for me
My eyes opened and able to see
I shared a smile with those I met
My heart full of hope and debt
Grateful for another chance to live
An opportunity to love and give
A new mindset on a fresh path
No longer in the misery and wrath
Changed my ways and said a prayer
I was finally someone able to care
Knowing the road would be hard and long
But, I made a choice to sing a song
Singing the song of a lone bird in flight
I spread my wings and headed for the light.

This is a lovely poem. I don’t read a ton of poetry, but I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Thank you for sharing!
