Let me escape

Frustration mounts into a heap
I’m buried in this much too deep
A locked door bars the way
I want to leave, but here to stay

It’s no use to dream or hope
I’m hanging here without a rope
This place will be the death of me
I want to escape and just be free

I hear a voice inside my head
With raspy breath, it’s almost dead
The voice says “Hold on a little more”
Something surely will wash ashore

I shake the voice from my ears
It only adds to self-doubt and fears
This place is the hell where I live
I’m here with nothing else to give.
